About
Loughton Mountaineering Club (LMC) actively welcomes outdoor enthusiasts involved in hill walking, rock climbing, mountaineering and other outdoor activities.
An active friendly club with members across a wide range of ages and abilities, the club aims to provide a friendly and enjoyable environment for everyone to actively participate in outdoor activities and meet others with similar interests. We run weekend meets each month to North Wales, the Lake District or the Peak District, climb at local climbing walls and walk in the local area, also meeting at social events. Members also plan their own trips to places including Scotland and the Alps.

There is a wealth of experience in our membership and we are always happy to share our knowledge, we are an excellent place to trial your own skills. We do not provide any specialist training, but can point you in the direction of appropriate courses.
The club was founded in 1975, is affiliated to the British Mountaineering Council (BMC).

LMC has an annual programme of events for everyone to enjoy the outdoors. LMC is a great opportunity to take part in outdoor activities, but also an opportunity to meet new people with shared interests.

Weekend Meets to the Lakes District, North Wales or the Peak District or other areas acrooss the country, allow members to take part in walking, scrambling or climbing activities. Exactly what attendees do will be decided by the people going, the area we are visiting and the weather.

Local Walks members organise day walks in Epping Forest or other areas across Essex, London and Kent.
​
Climbing You can find members at local climbing walls across London and Essex. On weekends with good weather, day trips to Harrisons Rocks or the Peak District are organised.

​​Socials Members meet monthly in the Victoria Tavern in Loughton, to catch up, plan the next event and talk about trips. Contact us before you come, so we know to look out for you

Loughton Mountaineering Club (LMC) actively welcomes outdoor enthusiasts involved in mountaineering, hill walking, rock climbing and socialising! We welcomes new members of all ages, experience and abilities. By joining LMC you will have access to our range of events and an opportunity to meet like minded individuals to share the mountains and hills with.
We encourage prospective new members to come along to a local meet or social to meet us and find out more about us and what we do. Prospective members are welcome to come along on a weekend meet as a guest, before joining the club. Please contact us so we know to expect you.

How to Join

Fee: The annual membership subscription is £30/year starting 1st January each year (correct as at 09/2021) which includes BMC affiliation fees.

Prospective Members We encourage prospective members to come along to a local meet or social to meet us and find out more about us and what we do. You are welcome on any of our weekend meets too. You must complete a prospective members form prior to attending any club event. Please contact the secretary for more info.

How to Join When you are ready to join, you will need to complete a membership form and pay the annual fee. Contact the secretary for details.

Under 18s We are currently unable to allow individuals under 18 to come away with us, unless a parent / guardian accompanies you. Members are welcome to bring their children on club meets provided they take full responsibility for the safety and behaviour of their children and maintain close personal supervision both on the hill and in the hut or camp site.

Training The club welcomes and encourages enthusiastic new members of all interests and abilities. The club does not undertake to train members in any mountain activities and emphasises that members must take full responsibility for their own safety in the mountains. The club does not run a formal training programme, however experienced members of the club may introduce novices to activities on an informal basis and can suggest training courses people may find useful. We expect members to know the BMC participation statement before they join.
