ABOUT LOUGHTON MOUNTAINEERING CLUB

Loughton Mountaineering Club (LMC) actively welcomes outdoor enthusiasts involved in mountaineering, hill walking, rock climbing and socialising

Loughton Mountaineering Club, is a long established club, based in Essex. An active friendly club with members across a wide range of ages and abilities, the club aims to provide a friendly and enjoyable environment for everyone to actively participate in outdoor activities including mountaineering, hill walking, scrambling, rock climbing and mountain biking and meet others with similar interests.

We run weekend meets each month to North Wales, the Lake District or the Peak District, staying in huts and sharing the driving. We also have local social events, meeting monthly. Members climb at the climbing walls in and around London and take advantage of the local area to walk and mountain bike.

We are relatively small, with about 35 members with a wide range of interests, so there is something organised to suit most people! We actively encourage members to plan their own events.

Joining LMC gives you an opportunity to meet others interested in outdoor activities and it is a great way to meet others with a similar interest and share lifts to further afield. Members with similar goals, also plan their own trips to places including Scotland and the Alps.

There is a wealth of experience in our membership and we are always happy to share our knowledge, we are an excellent place to trial your own skills. We do not provide any specialist training, but can point you in the direction of appropriate courses. The club is affiliated to the British Mountaineering Council (BMC).

We encourage people to come along to one of our weekend or local meets or social events, find out more and join in. See the membership page for more information on joining the club or contact one of the committee.

Club History

Loughton Mountaineering Club (LMC) was founded in 1975, as a group of friends that had a shared interest. Club members interested in all aspects of mountaineering organised weekends away using minibuses as transport and camping out.It has continued to develop and evolve into the club as it is today. The ethos has continued, though now we use huts rather than camping!
